Poynt updated to support Pearl 3G, Telemap, and VZ Navigator 5.0

Poynt

Poynt is by far one of my favorite applications for my BlackBerry and I’m glad to see Multiplied Media Corp. was on the ball with support for the Pearl 3G (910x). Not only did they add support for your shiny, new Pearl 3G, but they added support for two variations of navigation offered by carriers, specifically Telemap and VZ Navigator. So, go ahead and download your updated version today by visiting (from your BlackBerry native browser) m.mypoynt.com or downloading Poynt from AppWorld.

For those of you that don’t know what Poynt is, it is an all-in-one location based search application for BlackBerry. From Poynt you can search movie times, restaurants, businesses, gas stations and prices, and much more. For my full review of Poynt, click here.

BlackBerry OS 6.0 Previewing at RIM’s WES?

BlackBerry users planning on going to Research In Motion’s WES (Wireless Enterprise Symposium) conference could be in for some big news. Experts say that RIM is supposedly going to announce and preview the highly anticipated OS 6.0 for BlackBerry Smartphones. Some predict that this new system will be made for multi-touch purposes (which could also lead into some pretty cool new phones awaiting us). With recent pictures of the new OS constantly popping up, this is definitely not a new topic for BlackBerry fanatics. Analysts say that there will be many iPhone-like perks to the 6.0 upgrade, such as multi-touch and tab switching. “Major content announcements” will provide BlackBerry users with much more when it comes to music, gaming, movies, and maps (could this mean iTunes integration?). The first smartphone expected to have OS 6.0 is the BlackBerry Bold 9670, which could also be announced at WES.

“Something big for OS 6.0 is the homescreen. While we didn’t see any sort of widget support, it appears RIM has made the home screen completely customizable with pages. You can have your applications on the main page, then slide left or right to another page with different applications and browse that way.”

Pretty much what RIM is trying to do with this new OS is to get away from the traditional BlackBerry (keyboard/email), and make it a little more user-friendly and fun! I guess it depends on what “fun” really is for you. My kind of fun is sending out messages with a full, and real, QWERTY keyboard. My Bold 9700 fits those guidelines perfectly for me.

To be honest, OS 5.0 is great for me, and RIM just released OS 5.0 not too long ago. Do you think they’re moving too fast? But everything is fast nowadays. What’s your take on OS 6.0? Feel free to rejoice, argue, or question below!
