Issues with App World v1.1.0.35 icon disappearing

BBAppWorld_white_lowres_cropped

In response to some emails, comments on our post about the updated version of App World, and a few other concerned people, there is a known issue with the update. The App World icon is reportedly disappearing from devices after updating to version 1.1.0.35. Some people have claimed that they can see the icon but clicking it will only offer the option to delete the application.

There are two fixes thus far on how to recover your App World with about a 50% success rate.

  1. Plug your BlackBerry into a computer and install all of the updates through Desktop Manager.
  2. Delete the application either through Desktop Manager or from the Applications page in settings and install a backed up older version of App World until another update is released from RIM.

With the issue being so widespread and affecting people with both official and leaked OS versions, I imagine that RIM will be trying to fix this issue ASAP. Hopefully, one of these solutions will work to hold you over until the next update is released.

If you have another fix or have tried one of the said fixes, let us know.

Keep us informed of any changes you notice after installation in our comment section below or in our forums!

We don’t expect too much from a minor upgrade like this, but you can hope for improvements like battery life, snappiness, and overall performance. But remember, this isn’t official, it’s a beta leak so beware.

Leaked OS 5.0.0.732 for the Verizon BlackBerry Bold 9650

Verizon-bold-9650

Soon after today’s release of the Verizon BlackBerry Bold 9650 there was word of an unofficial OS update. Upon futher investigation, a leaked version of 5.0.0.732 for the Verizon Bold 9650 arose coming from several sources on the internet. This is for Verizon’s Bold 9650, so Sprint users will have to delete the vendor.xml file to use it. Although we are not clear on all that 5.0.0.732 has to offer, it looks as if this may be a substantial upgrade from .699!

Here are links where 5.0.0.732 can be downloaded from:

Official and leaked OS’s of this week

Collage

Here we are, another week has passed, and quite a few OS’s have been leaked along with the few official releases. If you’re one of the lucky few that received an official update, what are you waiting for? You now know how to backup all of your data in case something goes wrong during the update, and you know how to update your OS! For the daring, if you did not receive and update and you (somehow) have a 9300, let us know how that goes for you. Oh, send us some pictures of it as well. All the links are after the jump.

BlackBerry 6 and 9800 slider on camera again

The BlackBerry 9800 slider leaks have begun to turn into something resembling a torrent, with The Berry Fix posting a three minute and forty second video showing off both the 9800 and BlackBerry 6. The device is featuring an AT&T splash screen, which would seem to confirm what we’ve long suspected to be the launch day carrier. This is our best look at BlackBerry 6 yet, and while we have some concerns about the fluidity of all that swiping, things are looking promising.

Missing the standby function? Not a chance!

KeypadLock-20100422-150156-067

When I caught first word of phasing out the standby function of the mute key on BlackBerrys, I was a little upset. That is how I keep from pressing keys when I pocket my beloved BlackBerry. I recently switched back to my Tour from my 9700, and updated to a newer OS version (OS 5.0.0.591 in case anyone was wondering) that no longer supports the standby function to test it out for myself. After about two weeks of use, I have decided that I do not miss the mute key doubling as the standby key at all.

BlackBerry (Bold?) 9670 full QWERTY flip revealed!

blackberry-9670-6

Look what we have here! BGR has posted pictures of an awkward, full QWERTY, flip (clamshell) BlackBerry with model number 9670. Rumors have been going around for ages about a device like this. Between patents and fuzzy photoshopped images, it was hard to tell whether RIM was actually pursuing the clamshell style or not. I never really expected to see this, and especially not tonight. I had expected to see a Pearl (91xx) flip device with a full QWERTY before (what will more than likely become) a Bold flip device. More and some pictures can be seen after the break!
