I’ve noticed this in the most recent beta OS builds and I’ve only seen it in one official OS. I haven’t thought much of it other than it was a forgotten feature by RIM’s account and they decided to dump it. Now, I don’t know if that’s the reason or not, but according to Bla1ze over at CrackBerry who found RIM’s answer to this in the knowledge base, they have scrapped the standby feature. Good news for Nimbuzz users running OS 5.0, as the popular software has been updated to support devices running the new OS. Rest assured, we’ll be testing it to make sure it works well, but in the meantime, how do you like it? Any issues to report thus far? Sound off in the comments!

Are you on Sprint and looking at buying a new BlackBerry Curve 8530 but not really digging plum or black? Well rumor has it that a red version of the 8530 is coming to Sprint in the very near future. The red 8330 was one of the coolest BlackBerry’s of its day, and I know I always wanted to get my hands on one. I’m sure many people are going to feel the same way about this one. The plum is a very bold color, and the black can be bland at times. Red will be the perfect addition to the 8530 series on Sprint to fill that in-between void. No official release date has been posted, but GizmoFusion is claiming as soon as March 14. Sit tight pups, we’ll let you know when it’s official!

If you are running OS 5.0 on your BlackBerry and you are not satisfied with the built-in Files app, then FileScout is for you. One of the best things about this app is that they will give you a 14 day Free Trial. FileScout now comes in two versions, the paid version which is on sale now until March 15th for $4.99 and the Free Lite version. To download the Free Trial visit their website at emacberry.com, they also provide a nice comparison between the two versions and the built-in OS 5.0 Files app.

A neat little piece of the puzzle has been discovered today. For a while now, BlackBerry users all around have been in search for new symbols to use in BlackBerry Messenger. Sure, while finding what already existing symbols would actually display on your BlackBerry and saving them to AutoText was cool and exciting for a while, but a world of extended emoticons specifically for BBM has been unveiled today. Thanks to the people from the forums over at CrackBerry and Adam Zeis for the tip on this one. Now I have something fun to fill my weekend with. If I find time, I may try to create an AutoText backup of some of these symbols.
Some people have been having problems getting the symbols to display. I have got them to work on my Bold 9700 just fine. I saved them to a memo where they only display in their original form. They’re BlackBerry Messenger specific, so anywhere else they’re going to display as question marks, black boxes, or Asian characters. When you copy and paste the symbols into BBM, they will finally display.
Here is a link to the thread in CrackBerry’s forum where this originated, and here is the original post by Adam Zeis. Enjoy!

The people over at BerryScoop have posted up some pictures show that Verizon will be launching the Backup Assistant on BlackBerry devices on March 9th 2010. This is a free feature that Verizon offers to keep your contacts backed up. Once this is released it will be as simple as just downloading the app and signing in with your pin code that you created. Check out more pictures over at BerryScoop.

BoyGenius has posted up some details about a rumored sliding-QWERTY that one of his contacts sent to him. Here are some of the details:
- It’s a portrait-oriented slider. While most people assume a device with slideout keyboard would end up being something like HTC’s devices, we’ve been told this particular handset is more like the Palm Pre in terms of layout.
- The phone will run BlackBerry OS 6.0
- The rumored device will 100% support Wi-Fi 802.11n
- The phone will not be a Verizon exclusive — it’s supposed to be a GSM/HSPA device.

The guys over at BBLeaks are on top of these beta OS leaks. This time we have OS 5.0.0.530 for the BlackBerry Tour 9630. We are still waiting on an official 5.0 release from Verizon, the experts say that is when the 9650 will be released. In the mean time I will just enjoy the new beta leaks. To install this on your Tour make sure you delete the vendor.xml file and remember this is NOT official, install at your own risk.

Sprint isn’t giving up hope for the Curve 8330 just yet. They released an official OS, 4.5.0.186 for their 8330 and 8330m devices. If you have an 8330 and you are not on the Sprint network, you can still install this by removing the vendor.xml file. No word on any changes or updates this includes. Let us know your thoughts.
