BlackBerry Slider (codename Flicker) makes a surprise visit to Rumorville!

UPDATE: Thanks to everybody for their suggestions. The winning name is Flicker. Special thanks goes to JohnnyQuest and pantlesspenguin for submitting the winning answer.

The latest rumored device to grace our presence is not all that impressive. It’s said to be a low end, entry level slider that bares a striking resemblance to the Torch 9800. That is, it would be a smaller version of the Torch without a full qwerty keyboard. On this small Torch (I’ll call it a match for now) we could see a T9 keypad like the BlackBerry Pearl 9105 or even a SureType keyboard. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Are you thinking what I’m thinking? Hasn’t Rim put out enough low end, entry level devices already. Do you think anyone would be interested in buying this? Let’s have a little fun. Whoever comes up with the most creative name for this small Torch, I will rename the post in their honor. I’ll keep it going until Saturday night. Also, if you like someone else’s name, just vote for it in your reply. Comment below.

Terminal Mode puts the “car” back into BlackBerry, or something like that

QNX is a name that all of you BlackBerry fanatics are probably familiar with.  If you need to refresh your memory, check it out here.  Regardless, this new development in the world of BlackBerry is borderline outstanding.  In the video below, you will see seamless integration between a BlackBerry and a car, using Nokia’s Terminal Mode.  It goes without saying that this is the coolest and most functional team since Shawn Spencer and Burton Guster, or Taylor and chopsticks.

BlackBerry Tablet, Storm 3, and new OS coming at DEVCON

If you read my earlier article about BlackBerry Developers Conference, you know that this year is already shaping up to be fantastic.  On top of all the great things that the guys over at RIM have in store for those at DEVCON, we now have some information on what you’ll actually be able to see there as well!

First off, the long anticipated BlackBerry tablet (also called the BlackPad) will make it’s debut at DEVCON.  As you may or may know know, the BlackPad will not be running BlackBerry 6, or any variation of it.  A company called QNX, which RIM bought out in April, has designed a unique operating system for the BlackPad which will also be making it’s debut at DEVCON.

One of yesterday’s articles (seen here) brought you a possible Odin Refresh or Storm 3 leaked photo.  Speculation will not last for much longer though, as the Storm 3 will be making it’s debut alongside the BlackPad.  Rumor has it that the Storm 3 will be running the same QNX built software that the BlackPad is running, which would further confirm that yesterday’s article was the Odin Refresh.  We can only hope that the QNX operating system is equally as good, if not better, than BlackBerry 6.

So how many of the pups are planning on going to DEVCON?  If you weren’t planning on going before, has the recent news of a BlackBerry tablet and Storm 3 debut changed your mind?  Let us know in the comments below!

RIM owns rotating keyboard patent

Please take the following with a grain of salt, as it is nothing but speculation at this time.

Looks like RIM has created quite the oddity!  A recent tip on a patent made by RIM shows a phone that has a sliding keyboard that rotates to portrait and landscape modes.  When in portrait, the phone has a numerical keyboard.  In landscape, we see the BlackBerry keyboard we all know and love.  If you’d like to further investigate, you can see the official patent here.  More after the jump!

Feel free to check out our clamshell, Motorola, and Prism patent articles by clicking on their names.  I personally think that, despite this phone’s very odd formfactor, it could be the perfect device for someone new to BlackBerry.  With the addition of the numerical keyboard, it could be a mid-point for prospective BlackBerry users. So what say you of this phone?  Is it just too strange, or a move in the right direction for RIM?

Bold 9800 housing components in AT&T branding, multiple colors

Blackberry9800Caseatt1_thumb

You shouldn’t have any remaining doubts over the Bold 9800′s AT&T-branded future, but if you were getting nauseous with nervousness,  you can breath a sigh of relief. TrueSupplier, a Chinese-based OEM parts manufacturer, is selling black 9800 housings with AT&T branding, along with silver and red non-branded housings. With the flow of 9800 leaks and news starting to make Niagara Falls look like a garden hose, we feel pretty confident in saying the Slider’s release date is trending toward sooner, rather than later. Additional shot of the colored housings below:

Verizon leaks info on a BlackBerry tablet, Storm 3, and Curve 3

BlackBerryRumor

So far this year, Verizon has managed to leak almost every high-end phone that they’re putting out.  It seems that a Curve 3 and Storm 3 are slated for the holiday season, as well as the mysterious BlackBerry tablet.  Please take all of these with a grain of salt, as these are only rumors!

As far as the Curve 3 goes, I can only hope it is not a 9300, which is an 8530 knock-off.  The Storm 3 specs have been leaked like crazy, so we’re all up-to-date on that.  The tablet is the thing that grabs my interest most.  If this tablet is going to compete with the iPad, RIM is going to have to pull out their biggest guns and go all out.  If the browser remains slow and the UI isn’t changed to bring users beyond business users, the tablet could go straight down the drain.  Hopefully, RIM will implement their wonderful WebKit Browser in the tablet, which would give it a huge upper-hand. Please give us your thoughts on any of the rumors listed above.

Rumor: Updated Storm 3 specs

Blackberry Storm 2

Remember when we first got all excited about some leaked Storm 3 specs? Well, there seems to be even more excitement on the way. Salomondrin got his hands on some specs that are still rumors, yet exciting as ever!

Here are some Storm 3 specs and info that I’ve heard so far repeatedly from my sources:

1. Its being tested by a very limited team (preventing leaks).
2. The phone’s shell is still the Storm 2′s shell with different guts though (To make it hard to identify if the phone is lost or photographed).
3. It does have a 1ghz processor.
4. 8 GB internal memory.
5. 512MB flash memory was what they saw first, but apparently they are now playing with these test phones and have over 1GB of flash memory.
6. It won’t run on OS 6.0. Its gonna be running on an OS of its own. <– Really exciting
7. The phone does have the ability to run widgets and you can personalize it A LOT.
8. 5 MP camera still on it as off now, but like we saw on the 9670, this can change.
9. The screen will be something new we haven’t seen yet (new input mechanism) ,but it won’t work like the Storm 2. Yes, it will have SURE-PRESS, but I’m not sure how they are archiving it this time.
10. Its gonna be Verizon’s 1st or 2nd LTE phone. They aren’t sure if the Android phone will be first or the Storm at this point.

I’m especially excited about the OS it will be running and the screen it will have. Since I’m in Germany and there’s no big news about LTE here, I’m not that impressed but I’m pretty sure you might be. The other leaked specs like the 1ghz processor, the internal memory, and the flash memory seem to be confirmed though we don’t have any waterproof information yet. The hardware sounds amazing, and I hope RIM does their best to create matching software that still features everything we love about BlackBerry.

What do you think? Does this sound like the touchscreen BlackBerry you always wanted?
Give us your thoughts in the comments and our forums! Feel free to tell us what you wish for Storm 3 to have!

Editors Note: The specs sound solid, but call us skeptical when it comes to the OS situation. While it’s certainly possible that RIM has been working on a secret OS deep inside Waterloo, we’re not sure if we buy into it. Sal is typically very reliable with his information, so we’re willing to give him the benefit of the doubt; just don’t be shocked if the OS portion turns out to be false.

BlackBerry tablet confirmed, supporting Flash

looking_glass

Remember the good news from yesterday concerning the BlackBerry tablet? Well there’s more! Beta News is reporting that not only the details uncovered are correct but also something else: Flash support.

Beta News wrote:

A source close to RIM confirmed to Betanews that Kumar’s statements were accurate, including the screen size, and the dual camera setup. But they gave us a bit of additional information that the rumors haven’t covered yet: Flash support.

Looks like RIM likes a 7″ screen more than an 8.9″ one, or maybe the different screen sizes that are rumored are a hint that there’ll be two variants, or even two different devices running at the same time? I wasn’t so sure of it when I first heard of the idea of having a BlackBerry tablet, but Flash support sure is something to have. Even though Apple banned everything Flash from their devices, a lot of pages still use it, and to have Flash support on a tablet can’t be that bad at all.

What do you think about the idea of having a BlackBerry tablet that supports Flash 10.1? Let us know in the comments and our forums!

BlackBerry 9300, 9670, and 9800 on video

blackberry-9800-itw-32

If we may be so bold as to cite an ageless cliche: when it rains, it pours. Once again Salomondrin has managed to get his hands on an unreleased device, only this time he has three of them. Sal has scored some quality time with an older prototype 9670 flip, the relatively uninspiring Curve 9300, and most excitingly the 9800 slider running BlackBerry 6. We won’t bore you with any mundane details; check out the videos below and be sure to let us know what you think in the comments!

Verizon branded Bold 9650 found on eBay!

9650eBay

Hello all of you lazy weekend dogs! I hope everyone is having a nice weekend. It looks like someone has had all they want from their Verizon branded 9650 and has put it up for sale on eBay for the somewhat respectable price of $700.  That’s not a bad price at all considering the phone is still over a week from in-store availability. So, if you want to get your hands on that pretty, little, pre-production Bold, head on over to eBay and buy it now! Now, back to my lazy Saturday lounging.

Thanks @jivy75!

Edit: I am so tempted to buy this. You better beat me to it if you want it! ;-)
