Dream Themez for your BlackBerry!

JokerDreamTheme

Since it was a rather slow news day, I thought I would elaborate on a good way to customize your BlackBerry. A few customers I have ran into in the past few shifts of mine at my other job have complained to me about how their BlackBerry wasn’t very customizable. For the average user, it isn’t. Themes aren’t the easiest thing to find, installing them can be tedious if you don’t know what you’re doing, and RIM doesn’t really promote the use of themes outside of App World.

A few days ago I was browsing through Twitter and I stumbled upon what is Dream Themez by Donald Conrod, or @i_c_u_hater on Twitter. I’ve personally lost my interest in themes due to my being very picky and I can’t seem to find or make exactly what I want. So, I gave up and I just stick to stock, or pretty darn close to it. Even though I can’t get past my own pickiness, Donald’s Dream Themez are very nice, high quality themes. He has themes for the Storm/Storm2, Bold 9700 and 9000, Tour, Curve, Pearl, Pearl Flip, and a section for ladies only. If you’ve been in the market for some customization, hit up Dream Themez, you may find what you’ve been looking for there.

You can find Dream Themez by clicking here, and you can follow Donald on Twitter for updates on his themes.

Pearl 3G coming soon to Virgin Mobile Canada

BBPearl9100_275H

Another Canadian carrier has announced their impending launch of the BlackBerry Pearl 3G; this time the honors are falling to Virgin Mobile Canada. The Pearl will be available for $49.99 on a 3-year term or $349.99 off contract (I’d vote for off contract pricing here, but I’m allergic to 3-year deals). No word on when “Coming Soon” turns into “Now Available”, but we suspect it won’t be terribly far into the future. If you happen to live in Saskatchewan or Manitoba, you’ll be out of luck for the time being due to “network differences”.

The pressure is now on for at least one US carrier to announce the device, which we’re hoping happens by Memorial Day (just a little rampant speculation there). Odds are all on AT&T as being the sole provider until a CDMA version is announced.

T-Mobile passing up Pearl 3G in favor of Curve 3G?

logo_tmobile

As with most rumors, be sure to take this one with a dosage of sodium chloride. Current speculation is pointing toward the strong possibility of T-Mobile taking a pass on the upcoming Pearl 3G handset, in favor of an updated Curve model (8500 3G perhaps?). This strikes us as an odd business move considering the popularity of the Pearl model line, the excellent reception it received at WES, and T-Mobile’s own success carrying previous iterations of the device. While no US carriers have announced the Pearl 3G; if these rumors hold true, AT&T could end up as the sole provider with the new Pearl (at least until the CDMA version is announced). Let us know what you think in the comments!

The Pearl is a lie, Bell edition

Pearl 3G

We’re still alive folks! As you’re probably well aware, it has been something of a slow news week here at BBerryDog, so I’m quite pleased to bring some actual news…or maybe not. Canadian carrier Bell has recently shipped flyers to their customers proclaiming the Pearl 3G has arrived, and is ready for purchase! As it turns out, there is no Pearl. Due to unforeseen (or maybe just inept marketing) circumstances, the Pearl won’t really be available until sometime next week (at least that’s the current word). Hang in there Bell subscribers, your Pearly goodness will come soon enough (and be sure to send us lots of pretty pictures when it does)!

Poynt updated to support Pearl 3G, Telemap, and VZ Navigator 5.0

Poynt

Poynt is by far one of my favorite applications for my BlackBerry and I’m glad to see Multiplied Media Corp. was on the ball with support for the Pearl 3G (910x). Not only did they add support for your shiny, new Pearl 3G, but they added support for two variations of navigation offered by carriers, specifically Telemap and VZ Navigator. So, go ahead and download your updated version today by visiting (from your BlackBerry native browser) m.mypoynt.com or downloading Poynt from AppWorld.

For those of you that don’t know what Poynt is, it is an all-in-one location based search application for BlackBerry. From Poynt you can search movie times, restaurants, businesses, gas stations and prices, and much more. For my full review of Poynt, click here.

BlackBerry Pearl 9105 surfaces, has T9 keyboard

After what would seem to be an eternity of rumors, renders, and fuzzy parts-bin photos, we finally have some solid evidence of the BlackBerry Pearl 9105′s existence, T9 keyboard and all. The photos above briefly appeared on the id-blackberry-archive before quickly being removed (but not before the damage was done). We’re not only seeing a much clearer photo of the keyboard itself, but also some of the embedded options such as compound words and contextual learning.

It would appear the Pearl is headed toward having multiple variants, with T9, SureType, and a QWERTY all being rumored (in fairness, the QWERTY is suspected to be for a next generation Pearl Flip). Hopefully we’ll hear a bit more about the candybar follow-up to one of BlackBerry’s most popular devices at WES next week.

Rumor: BlackBerry Pearl 9105 to have T9 keypad

I’m not sure how I’ve missed all of these patent leaks, but I sure have missed a lot of them. This morning a photo of a mock-up for the 9105 was leaked. This still isn’t clarification of what the 9105 is going to be exactly. From the looks of it, I would be inclined to guess that this will be very similar to, if not exactly, what the official release is going to look like.
