Word today is T-Mobile will be offering a 200MB data plan for $9.99 a month. The plan is supposedly set to launch sometime in November. T-Mobile will also continue offering unlimited data for $30 a month. Here’s the kicker, if you go with the $9.99 plan and exceed 200MB of data, T-Mobile will allow you to upgrade to the $30 unlimited plan without having to pay overage fees. This will certainly help those of us who sporadically use data every now and then. I have to give T-Mobile props for this move, and not forcing customers to subscribe to an unlimited plan when they don’t need it.

AT&T and T-Mobile (along with Transit Wireless LLC) may soon be offering cell service underground in the Subway trains, so that commuters can use their phones on the go, while on the subway train without worry. For daily commuters that lose their signal while in transit via subway, this would be huge news for them. It could also be a scale tipper for someone trying to decide between carriers that offer and carriers that do not offer the enhanced services in subway tunnels. Below is

AT&T Inc. and T-Mobile USA customers will have mobile-phone service on New York City subway stations after the carriers signed 10-year agreements to access an underground network being built by Transit Wireless LLC.

AT&T, the second-largest U.S. wireless carrier, and Deutsche Telekom AG’s T-Mobile will have the option to renew the contracts four times in increments of five years each, said Pat Smith, a spokesman for closely held Transit Wireless.

Transit Wireless said in July it secured new financing to build the network for New York’s 277 underground subway stations. The deal rejuvenated a plan that had been delayed for about three years.

This would be a major event for NYC and the participants if this does go through. Stay tuned and we will keep you update if there are details leaked.

The 9700, as I have said before, is most likely the best device out there at this time (unless you like touchscreens, at which point TORCH!).  The 9780, a refresh device, will mainly be a slight upgrade on the 9700 that has remained so popular since it’s release.  The 9780 will reportedly be the first non-touchscreen device to ship with BlackBerry 6.  Below, we have a TechnoBuffalo video, as well as a video from a Vietnamese site by the name of Mainguyen.

Based on T-Mobile’s SMS ammendment (of sorts), which states that all outside businesses like Facebook and Twitter will be charged $.0025 for each SMS sent to a T-Mobile user, there are several companies somewhat up-in-arms.  One such company is ChaCha, the online answer service which allows you to text a question and get a response almost instantaneously.  ChaCha writes off atleast 12% of their usage (approx. 125,000,000 messages) as T-Mobile based.

ChaCha’s statement:

If T-Mobile moves forward with its “twitter tax” that is rumored to begin on Oct 1st, ChaCha absolutely will drop T-Mobile from our service. T-Mobile is a carrier that doesn’t understand the realities of content businesses including Facebook, Twitter, ESPN, and ChaCha. ChaCha has more than 15 million monthly unique users for whom we answer over 2 million questions every day. The vast majority of these answers are delivered by SMS text. Subscribers for these texts are already paying t-Mobile and they are paid something already by aggregators/publishers. Now, they plan to impose an egregious and unacceptable tax.

Given that the costs to deliver text are miniscule, T-Mobile already makes profits from what they charge their customers, aggregators, and publishers. There, T-mobile is “triple dipping.” We don’t see any reason for this, other than greed.

This will be unfortunate for T-Mobile users who will either need to switch to another carrier to enjoy texting services, or access similar services via the mobile web and/or mobile apps (for which T-Mobile gets nothing incrementally). Starting today we will make it clear to our T-Mobile users that ChaCha would still be available on other carriers and/or via the mobile web or mobile apps.

If T-Mobile moves forward they will give their subscribers reasons to consider other carriers and/or prevent defectors from AT&T/Sprint/Verizon from considering T-Mobile. Also, their proposed pricing move will completely stifle innovation in the space, further harming T-Mobile customers.

ChaCha knows that our real-time “answers” and dbase of billions of answers is valuable and can be leveraged within any of these platforms. We prefer that T-Mobile not take this step, but if they do, we will no longer provide our free SMS service to T-Mobile and shift the traffic to other carriers and platforms. It’s unfortunate for T-Mobile subscribers since they will miss out on ChaCha and many free services because of this short-sighted move by T-Mobile.

In my opinion, ChaCha is sticking it to T-Mobile in a semi-unfair way.  On the other hand, I feel like TMo is hitting below the belt with their new SMS charge implementation.  It’s a little ridiculous to charge a company for sending texts to their customers.  But what do you say, pups?  Do you think that ChaCha is justified, or is this just a publicity stunt?  Let us know your opinions in the comments below.

Early this morning our friends over at TmoNews posted a list of accessories coming to T-Mobile around the holidays, and as you may have guessed, there is some BlackBerry goodness involved. The list contains a shipping date of November 11th for some gel skins for the BlackBerry 9780. While this is not a list of device releases, you can rest assured that if the skins are coming out on the 15th, the devices should follow suit right around he same time. For those of you who are unaware, the 9780 is the big brother to the 9700. The form factor is the same but we do see some upgrades in the guts of the device, the most notable being the upgrade to BlackBerry OS 6. I’ve played with the Torch and the touchscreen seems to make the interface more user-friendly and you can easily tell the UI was built with touch input in mind. I’m curious to see how the OS feels on a non-touchscreen device. Here are some specs for the 9780 compared to the 9700:

More good news for you, the BlackBerry Curve 9300 (aka the Curve 3G) is being available on T-Mobile.com, watch out for it waiting for you in retail stores pretty soon. It’s available for $79.99 in Graphite Gray and Smoky Violet. The Curve 3G is featuring a full QWERTY-keyboard, a 2-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n), a 624 MHz processor, of course 3G and more. The 2-megapixel camera is a bit of a bummer as well as it coming with OS 5.0, but there’s going to be support for BlackBerry 6. Let’s hope we’ll see that somewhen in the near future.

O.S. 5.0.0.822 has been released for the Curve 8900 and 8520 from T-Mobile. This release falls right in line with AT&T and Rogers .822 release for the 9000. It’s been some time since these devices received an update, but its nice to see that RIM has not forgotten about you. Additional snapshots surfaced today courtesy of the folks over at Driphter of the soon to be released Blackberry Bold 9780. Earlier images of the devices about screen had only been seen with bands 1, 4 and 8. These bands are primarily assosiated with T-Mobile (USA), WIND Mobile, Mobilicity, Videotron (Canada), and band 8 is used overseas with carriers Optus and Vodafone. The images released today show 3G bands 1, 2, 5, and 6 used by major North American carriers  AT&T, Bell Mobility, Telus, and Rogers. This should give all GSM customers a glimmer of hope holding out for the more traditional BlackBerry form factor. Lets keep our fingers crossed that we won’t have to wait to much longer for a release date.

So which next generation BlackBerry do you prefer? The 9800 Slider, Storm 3, or are you more of a traditionalist and holding out for the Bold 9780? Some of you shiver at the thought of moving parts or a touchscreen/QWERTY combo phone. What Blackberry are you? Let us know in the comments below!
