Are you on Sprint and looking at buying a new BlackBerry Curve 8530 but not really digging plum or black? Well rumor has it that a red version of the 8530 is coming to Sprint in the very near future. The red 8330 was one of the coolest BlackBerry’s of its day, and I know I always wanted to get my hands on one. I’m sure many people are going to feel the same way about this one. The plum is a very bold color, and the black can be bland at times. Red will be the perfect addition to the 8530 series on Sprint to fill that in-between void. No official release date has been posted, but GizmoFusion is claiming as soon as March 14. Sit tight pups, we’ll let you know when it’s official!

Sprint isn’t giving up hope for the Curve 8330 just yet. They released an official OS, 4.5.0.186 for their 8330 and 8330m devices. If you have an 8330 and you are not on the Sprint network, you can still install this by removing the vendor.xml file. No word on any changes or updates this includes. Let us know your thoughts.

Interesting developments this morning in regards to the BlackBerry Tour 9650…or should I say Bold 9650. According to the guys over at Mobilitysite, a friend at RIM confirmed that the device will be added to the Bold family as the “Bold 9650.” The full e-mail is below:
“Some Verizon stores did get the 9650. They were sent back for “updates”. Verizon won’t release the 9650 until the official OS 5.0 arrives for the Tour 9630. The Sprint 9650’s are having WiFi issues and Sprint is working that out. It won’t be called the Tour 2. It’s the Bold 9650.”
My take? I don’t think that the Tour/Bold 9650 (or 9630, for that matter) fit into the design category of the Bold series. I think that characterizing this device as a “Bold” diminishes the reputation of the existing series. What say you? Tour, Bold, or another name altogether?

This update for your Tour is available through Desktop Manager. There is no download for it just yet. It’s only available from Desktop Manager at the moment. While this is good news for Sprint Tour owners, it’s utterly frustrating for Tour owners on Verizon. Hopefully it won’t be too long before they roll out the big 5.0. If you’re currently on Sprint and are still running OS 4.7, plug your BlackBerry and update it to 5.0. You will thank me later! Enjoy!

Sprint officially releases OS 5.0.0.459 for their Curve 8530. This has been a popular device this past week, first we see a 5.0.0.463 Beta OS leak and now an official from Sprint. If you have one of these OS releases tell us what you think about them, or if you have used both what are some pros and cons of each? This download will only work for the 8530 and not the 8520. To download, follow the link below and select your device from the drop down list.

Were you one of the BlackBerry users waiting patiently for a next generation CDMA BlackBerry? I was and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on a new BlackBerry Tour. While the 9630 is a great phone and definitely one of my favorite BlackBerry models, I did have to return three Tours to get my hands on one that actually had a properly functioning trackball.

After what seemed like a long wait, Sprint customers can order the Curve 8530 at the company’s website, or if you can find one that has them in stock, retail stores. Featuring 3G connectivity, OS 5.0, Wi-Fi, and a 2.0-megapixel camera, the device can be had for $49.99 after mail-in rebates. Anyone passing up the Tour for the Curve?

The offer doesn’t begin until this Saturday at 8 AM (local time), but for those activating a Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, or T-Mobile BlackBerry on a two-year agreement, you may want to consider Walmart as your place of purchase. In a deal running until November 20th, the nation’s largest retailer is offering a $100 Walmart gift card to anyone who picks up one of the following devices:
- Verizon Storm
- Verizon Storm2
- AT&T Curve 8310
- AT&T Bold 9000
- Sprint Curve 8330 (all colors)
- T-Mobile 8520 (all colors)
- T-Mobile Pearl 8120 (Emerald)
Of note, the gift card is given at the time of purchase, meaning you don’t have to play the “mail and wait” game. Sounds like a fair deal to me. Anyone planning on picking up an early Christmas present this weekend?

Not to be left in the dark, shortly after the official Verizon Wireless announcement regarding the BlackBerry Curve 8530, Sprint came out with an announcement of its own. Though no firm date or price point have been established, the nation’s third largest wireless carrier confirmed that it will launch in the future. My guess is that the price point will be somewhere in the $99.99 range after a $100 mail-in rebate, however with the Tour available at Best Buy for $99 out the door, I’m hoping that the carrier offers it at an enticing price point.
The full press release is below. Sprint BlackBerry users, is it worth the upgrade?
