Facebook v1.9 now available for BlackBerry

It’s been a long time coming, and our patience has finally been rewarded with the release of Facebook for BlackBerry v1.9. BlackBerry released the app in their Beta Zone for download and I personally have heard nothing but good things as far as upgrades are concerned. The new features of v1.9 are:

  • Dedicated Inbox – View your Facebook messages in one separate inbox or within your BlackBerry messages inbox. The app pre-fetches 30 of your existing messages, and will then continue to sync messages on your BlackBerry smartphone with your Facebook inbox.
  • Facebook Search – Search for individuals and pages, making it easy to find mutual friends, add friends and “like” pages. For BlackBerry 6 users, Universal Search will pull Facebook results too!
  • Enhanced Friends List and Page List – View Friends profile photos and pages in list form (depending on privacy settings)
  • Redesigned Navigation Bar – View your own profile and click on the Search and Message icons with the new navigation bar

It seems as though RIM sat down with over 90% of the previous apps users and pinpointed the exact issues with this new app. The full app is said to include Facebook Places and other more user friendly interface tweaks. So if you dont want to wait for the full release be sure to head over to BlackBerry Beta Zone and sign up so you can download the app (YOU HAVE TO SIGN-UP TO GET IT). Also, RIM encourages you to report any issues that you may find with the app so they can be tend to.

BlackBerry Messenger 5.0.1.39 available in Beta Zone

Luck you, if you have access to the BlackBerry Beta Zone for I don’t (Germany is still not supported). Have a look and you will find an update for BlackBerry Messenger. Not that big of a leap from version 5.0.1.38 to version 5.0.1.39.

I’m not sure what’s new but if you have any findings, please let us know in the comments.

If you’re not yet a member of the Beta Zone, feel free to join here.
If you’re already a member and didn’t get your notification e-mail yet, click here to download.

T-Mobile says BlackBerry Podcast app is coming soon

Podcast

T-Mobile is all over it today. They first announced the BlackBerry Curve 3G, then they come out saying that the BlackBerry Podcast application is on its way to our devices later this month. I have yet to try out the BlackBerry Podcast app, but I know it seems nice. I tinkered with it over the weekend when I was playing with a Torch, but I haven’t really got to sit down and use it. I’m also not sure if this is just in line with the newly announced 9300 which will support BlackBerry 6. With that being said, we can only sit and wait for the Podcast app, or you can try to get it through BetaZone. I’ve been trying to get my hands on it for a while now to no avail.

Official Limited Beta for BlackBerry Desktop Manager 6.0!

bbdesktop-1

How jealous am I of all you guys living in a country with BlackBerry Beta Zone availability! Why? RIM just posted about an official (but limited) beta of the Desktop Manager 6.0!
If you didn’t sign up yet, make sure you do now. Since it’s a limited beta, it won’t be available for everyone right away but the invitations to test the new desktop software start going out today. Check out the preview Screenshots of Desktop Manager 6.0 on the Inside BlackBerry blogs. So far it looks pretty good to me – it actually looks a lot better than Desktop Manager 5.0 in my opinion. Now I definitely can’t wait for 6.0 to hit our loved ‘Berries and our Desktop!

Let us know in the comments if you’re one of the lucky ones getting the chance to test 6.0 and how you like it!

BlackBerry Messenger v5.0.1.32 available in Beta Zone

BlackBerryMessenger

Happy you if you’re participating in the BlackBerry Beta Zone. If you’re signed up to the BBM program, log in to your account and grab the latest version 5.0.1.32 which has been posted for download. If you’re having problems with BBM lately you should try it, it might make things work a little better. I’m hoping to see the release through BlackBerry App World soon since my country (Germany) is not even available for taking part in the Beta Zone.

So make sure to let me know in the comments if your BBM is performing better (or worse) and what’s new and how it works.

Beta Zone opens up BlackBerry Messenger v 5.0.1.17 availability

BlackBerryMessenger

Now that all of our Bottle Rockets and Roman Candles are neatly tucked away for safe keeping until next year, we can all resume our daily lives. For all of those BBM addicts out there, a new version has been released for those who have signed up for BlackBerry Beta Zone. Although the update is mainly for bug fixes, some chat and group specific fixes are imminent as well (so we hope).

Here is the message from Beta Zone:

After a limited beta program, we’re pleased to announce the BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 Beta Program is open to all BlackBerry Beta Zone Members! Please fill out the BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 registration form found under “Eligible Programs” as soon as possible to ensure that we have the necessary information to grant you access to the software. Once you have completed the registration form, we will send you an email containing the activation code you’ll need to start beta testing BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 within 48 hours. Looking forward to having you on board the beta program!

Please let us know, if you are in the BZ, exactly what changes have occurred. If you have not signed up for Beta Zone, you can do so here. There is a growing amount of programs you can enroll in and get a first look at beta software. As always, give us a little wishlist of what you’d like to see with the future versions of BlackBerry Messenger and other Beta Zone software.

Facebook chat coming to BlackBerry?

FacebookChatForBlackBerry

Nothing like a juicy, meaty, medium-rare rumor to kick off Fourth of July weekend (if you prefer Kielbasa, we don’t have an app for that).  Facebook may receive the only thing that iPhone has us beat on, Facebook Chat. Version 1.8 of the Facebook app (which those in the beta zone have received) is said to not actually include chat as of yet, but give the option to include it.  I’m as confused as you are.

On a brighter note. this is exactly what I’ve been waiting for.  Since I only use gtalk, I have trouble justifying the use of another IM app just for Facebook.  If the Facebook chat is integrated into the app that I, along with many others, use, I can’t complain.  The only things I am worried about are battery life and lag.  This could be two things: an app killer or an app revival, but that’s up to RIM and the testers.  So please guys, bark it up.  Do you even really want Facebook chat or is this just extra, unneeded bells and whistles?

App World 2.0 previewed by Inside BlackBerry

baw23

Well, about the time I talk about App World 2.0 being announced, RIM gives us an app preview on the BlackBerry blog. They have broken it down a little more and provided an explanation for some of the features that have been added. For the screenshots provided, there is a gallery after the jump and a summary of the changes. Hit the source link for the full blog post from the BlackBerry blog.

BlackBerry Podcast app available in Beta Zone

Great news for all of your podcast addicts out there, a new application from BlackBerry has found its way into the Beta Zone. There is very little word on the application right now and that functionality at this point is quite limited (can’t add your own subscriptions, etc).

The BlackBerry Podcast app features the ability to:

  • Download podcasts using WiFi
  • Schedule downloads
  • Filter explicit material
  • Customize subscription notifications

If you’re not quite sure what BlackBerry Beta Zone is, it is this fairly new project from RIM to help get user feedback on some of their applications and other forms of feedback as well. To sign up and try to get your hands on a beta version of the podcast application, go to Beta Zone and register. I have been on the search for a better podcast application for a while now. If you are lucky enough to gain eligibility to get the beta version of the application, you should tell us what you think. Oh, and I envy you.
