Review: OtterBox Commuter Series for Bold 9700

I have always liked silicon skin cases for my BlackBerry devices, but have always preferred hard cases over them for their protection.  The one complaint I have against silicon cases are how hard they make it to slide your phone in and out of your pocket. Hard cases usually add a good bit of bulk and can make it difficult to press some buttons. With the Commuter series of the OtterBox for the Bold 9700, you get the best of both worlds.

Review: Speck SeeThru for the BlackBerry Tour 9630

Screen shot 2009-12-20 at 10.12.58 AM

Since I bought my Platinum case for my Tour, I haven’t looked back. The only true contender to that case would be this Speck case. The reason behind that is because of the hard plastic cover over the screen. I have always seemed to like hard, plastic snap-on cases but hate how they wear out over time. Speck seems to have found the answer to this problem.

It has a “latch” style flap on the bottom rather than it being a snap-on all the way around. So the snap-on part on the top is not really snapped on. It’s placed in the correct grooves then the bottom is latched, avoiding any issues with wear from excessive changing of cases.  It also comes with a sturdy hard plastic holster, with a swivel belt clip. The only draw back that I have found with the holster is that the phone slides into it, rather than snapping in. This, throughout the duration of about five hours of use, has resulted in quite a few micro-scratches down the front of the screen cover.

Adding to the Fuel Case lineup, Case-Mate has launched a unit designed specifically for the BlackBerry Tour.  Perfect for the on-the-go traveler, the unit offers 7 additional hours of talk time, 20 hours of standby time, and a rotating belt clip.  The unit retails for $79.99, but can be had for $74.95 here.  For those that travel frequently (or if you’re like me, for those that forget to charge their phone every now and again), it’s a must-have accessory.
