RIM to provide India with a final solution by January 2011

India has agreed to give RIM an additional sixty days to comply with government regulations citing concerns over national security. India had threatened to ban corporate e-mail and messenger services by August if RIM did not come up with a way for the government to monitor the encrypted information. After the deadline was pushed to October by Indian regulators, RIM agreed to an interim (temporary) arrangement for lawful interception of BlackBerry messenger services and pledged to provide a final solution by January.

Reaserch In Motion said in a statement that “it is optimistic about reaching a final solution with Indian regulators” and ”it had not changed the security architecture for corporate e-mail, that it does not make special deals on access with individual countries.”

In related news, India is now asking all companies that provide encrypted communication to install servers in the country to make user data more accessible for the government to obtain. This would lead some to speculate that Gmail provider Google would be affected, as well as Internet phone company Skype SA.

Listen up, I am not going to start ranting about power hungry governments who have to know every little thing about what people are doing all the time. What I will say is that this is not just a RIM problem. This will eventually affect every single human being on this planet regardless of which phone provider you use, or the company you get your internet through. We should all be thankful of the fight RIM is engaged in on our behalf.

What’s your take on the subject? You see things differently, or do you agree with what RIM is doing? Sound off below.

Hands-On Video Review of the BlackBerry Style 9670

I have been following the BlackBerry Style 9670 ever since it was mentioned several months ago. Contrary to popular opinion, I have always believed that there is a market for a smart flip phone with a full qwerty keyboard. As more about the phone is revealed I stand by my past statements made in prior posts supporting this form factor. I think this is a very smart move by RIM to take advantage of an untapped market, and look for other companies to jump on the bandwagon. But listen, check out this hands on video from Kevin Michaluk at CrackBerry.com and you be the judge.

The BlackBerry Style will come preloaded with OS 6, a 5MP camera, and 512MB of ram. Has your opinion of the BlackBerry Style 9670 changed at all? With a Halloween release one question remains, will this be a Trick or Treat for the clamshell? Give us your opinion below.

Sprint has been on top of their game in the past week rolling out update after update. Why should they stop now? BlackBerry Messenger version 5.0.1.41 is now available for download from the BlackBerry App World webstore installer. The file size is 6MB if downloaded this way. • Support for a simpler, one line view of contact list
• Support for both deleting an unsent chat message (Shift-Del)   and escaping out of a chat while retaining an unsent chat message (Escape button)

RIM allows purchases through BlackBerry App World website

RIM has finally made it possible to purchase apps and download them from the BlackBerry App World website. You can also modify your My World account so that it syncs with your BlackBerry device. A Windows installer is required for installation, and as of now Mac is not supported. Payment methods include Credit cards, PayPal, and carrier billing, if supported by your carrier.

All in all, this is a pretty sweet addition to the RIM App World. Being able to sync is an option I personally want to explore. What say you. hit this link here and head over to the BlackBerry App World website, and tell us what you think.

Telus Mobility will be adding the BlackBerry Style 9670 to their lineup

Hot on the heels of the BlackBerry Style 9670 announcement said to be a “Sprint Exclusive”, Telus Mobility has announced that it to will be offering a little Style to Canadian customers. But wait a minute, I thought exclusive means sole rights. Hmmm!  Anyway, Telus has officially confirmed they will be adding the BlackBerry Style to their lineup. Although date or price have not been released, rumors have surfaced pointing to late November. Here is the announcement made by Telus earlier today.

“Today Sprint announced that they will offer the BlackBerry Style 9670. I wanted to reach out to confirm that TELUS will be offering the BlackBerry Style here in Canada. Pricing and availability information still to come.”

Is anyone on Telus willing to give the BlackBerry Style a shot? Also, if someone could find out what the definition for exclusive is. Please leave your comments below.

T-Mobile announces 200MB data plan for $9.99

Word today is T-Mobile will be offering a 200MB data plan for $9.99 a month. The plan is supposedly set to launch sometime in November. T-Mobile will also continue offering unlimited data for $30 a month. Here’s the kicker, if you go with the $9.99 plan and exceed 200MB of data, T-Mobile will allow you to upgrade to the $30 unlimited plan without having to pay overage fees. This will certainly help those of us who sporadically use data every now and then. I have to give T-Mobile props for this move, and not forcing customers to subscribe to an unlimited plan when they don’t need it.

What do you think of this latest move from T-Mobile? Can you keep it under 200MB, or do you need a little more? Reply below.
