Top Five apps that make the BlackBerry unpocketable

Obama 2008

I find myself to be a typical BlackBerry user.  When I need to get something done, I pull it out of my pocket, get the job done, and stow it away again.  Despite my attempts, however, there have always been a multitude of applications that keep me from pocketing my BlackBerry.  If I were to list my top five applications for BlackBerry that make the phone “unpocketable,” they would go as follows:

1. Viigo
: Being able to keep up with my RSS feeds without having to have my computer right in front of me is very convenient.  It organizes all sorts of different information and keeps it all in one place.  Rather than trying to search all the different blogs I follow and keep up with recent posts, I prefer to stick with Viigo.  With streaming podcasts, weather, stocks, shopping, etc. Viigo has my vote for the #1 app.

2. BlackBerry Messenger: Though it is a native application, with all of the changes being made to it and the more people that are beginning to use this, it is becoming a very hot topic for all BlackBerry users and many non-BlackBerry users.  With Groups and a handful of very close friends having Messenger, I spend most of my time using my phone in Messenger.

3. Ubertwitter: Twitter has been taken over by all of the BlackBerry fiends of the world.  With the handful of incredible Twitter clients available for BlackBerry, the accessibility and ease of use of Twitter on the go has increased exponentially.  I find myself constantly reading all sorts of tweets from the blogs I follow, so when I don’t feel like reading RSS, I can just turn to Twitter and see what everyone is saying in real time.  This gives off a more personal feel than a blog, in my opinion.

4. Slacker: Though I use Pandora quite often as well, I recently switched to Slacker because the online options for playlists just seem a little easier for me.  While they’re both great applications and Pandora is better for some things, Slacker seems to work a little better for me on my BlackBerry.  When I’m at home doing my thing, I probably spend about 6-7 hours listening to the radio through one of these applications.

5. Sudoku: When I really feel like putting off productivity, I play one of my favorite games of all time.  I understand that I am one of the few individuals that still like this game; most find it very boring and too hard.  I’ve worked my way through some of the Genius difficulty levels and find myself a bit under stimulated by it now.  Nonetheless, I still find myself playing this game quite a bit.  If only there was a Rubik’s Cube game for the Tour…
